(St. Louis)- This morning the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse- St. Louis (NCADA) released its Legislative Priorities for the first session of the Missouri’s 100th General Assembly.

“Every year a new legislative session is an opportunity to raise awareness for and address substance use related issues in our community,” said Nichole Dawsey, NCADA’s Executive Director. “We look forward to working with the General Assembly to develop effective, evidence based approaches to public health issues.”

Legislation has already been filed related to Missouri’s medical marijuana program, the opioid crisis, and youth access to alcohol and nicotine products. NCADA will staunchly advocate for policies that will help Missourians in addressing substance use issues.

“The General Assembly has several major issues before them this year,” said Brandon Costerison, Policy Coordinator at NCADA. “The voters approved a massive new medical marijuana program that requires regulation and oversight, and the opioid epidemic continues to take a toll on Missourians. We look forward to partnerships that will address these crucial issues.”

In addition to ongoing contact with the legislature, NCADA will participate in advocacy activities such as Prevention Day at the Capitol and Speak Hard, a youth advocacy leadership day.

NCADA is a community health organization that works to prevent and reduce the harms associated with alcohol and other drugs through education, intervention, and advocacy.
