PLC: Under Construction

Despite the critical need for more prevention programming, financial support for it is actually shrinking. And as funds becomes less available, we have to focus our goals in order to achieve more with less.

So we’re disappointed to report that NCADA’s Prevention Leadership Conference (PLC) is taking a break. Our staff need a chance to rebuild, refocus, and reimagine a prevention leadership conference that will not only provide a great experience for teens—as it has for three uninterrupted decades—but will attract one or more champions to help us pay for it. We already know how to hold an impactful conference that empowers young people to become prevention leaders in their own schools and communities. But before we can bring back PLC, we will need to find more and bigger sponsors to help us deliver this experience to St. Louis area youth.

In the meantime, there are plenty of other opportunities for youth involvement and impact. If teens want to become more engaged in ongoing prevention and advocacy work, they can contact Kristin Bengtson about FORREAL. Teens can also connect with a variety of youth groups and programs through their local community coalitions. We also encourage teens who are currently in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade, to apply to be a part of our Teen Institute (TI) — TI is a transformational, 4-day seminar designed to train 75-100 high school students how to prevent substance misuse among their peers.
